When I thought my car was done-for in late summer 2008 I made the personal decision to not get it fixed until I could pay for it with cash and still have savings. I found out the car is still drivable. It wouldn't shift into fourth gear. After a few months I sold the car altogether. I am car-free! I ride my bicycle just about everywhere I need to go.
